Meet our teachers


Principal - Julia Johnston
Julia's journey into the world of musical theatre began at the age of four, when she appeared in a local community theatre production. As her childhood years went by, Julia enjoyed the arts by starring in many shows including Meet Me In St. Louis, The Wizard Of Oz and The King & I. As a high school student, she attended the P.C.V.S. Integrated Arts Program in Peterborough where one of her favorite roles was appearing as the Scarecrow in the school's production of The Wiz.

She also pursued her love of singing and competed in numerous competitions including the C.N.E. Rising Star for many years. Julia went on to graduate from the Randolph Academy For The Performing Arts in Toronto and has since appeared in various productions including CATS and Children Of Eden in the Toronto area.

Julia has always had a heart for children and is excited to take on her newest musical theatre adventure as the Principal of the first StageCoach Theatre Arts School in Ontario and StageCoach Peterborough!
Dance Coach - Melissa Beeby
Melissa has been studying dance and the arts for 19 years. As a high school student, she took part in productions at Showplace Peterborough including Crazy for You and Spring Tonic. Melissa is the graduate of two dance programs at George Brown College which included being a member of the first graduating class for the Commercial Dance Studies. Upon graduation she received a certificate of professional Development from Ballet Jorgen Canada. Since completing school Melissa has been teaching at local dance studios in Peterborough. She has received numerous awards for her choreography and concepts at dance competitions across Ontario. Most recently Melissa was fortunate enough to both perform and choreograph in The Nutcracker (Legacy Productions). "This production was an incredible experience and I got to work with so many talented performers." The proceeds of this performance went to the James Birrell Foundation at Sick Kids Hospital. Melissa is so excited to be part of the StageCoach team and can't wait to start creating!!
Singing Coach - Karen Scovell
Karen has been studying in the arts, with a focus on vocal performance, for over 15 years. She discovered her love of music in middle school, and spent her high school career honing her skills in both vocal and instrumental music, as well as dance, drama and visual arts.

From high school, Karen went to Cambrian College to study music performance, with a major in voice and a minor in piano. Since college, she has been performing as a vocal soloist and choral singer in and around the Greater Toronto Area for ten years.

Karen has been teaching students of all ages and walks of life for several years, and is excited to be part of the StageCoach Peterborough community.
Drama Coach - Paula Worley
Originally from England, Paula Worley has over 27 years of theatrical experience. Paula graduated from Guildford School of Acting, United Kingdom, in 1991 to have a continuous career in theatre performance and drama teaching. She is an experienced drama teacher, actor and director, and specializes in teaching character building, vocal skills, acting and poetry presentation, play and script analysis, audition skills and stage craft. Paula is also an accomplished set and scenery designer, mask and puppet maker.

Early Stages Coach - Emily Gray
Originally from Winnipeg Manitoba, Emily has been passionate about theatre and singing since her earliest years. Having been enrolled for four years in the Manitoba Theatre for Young people, she has been trained in voice, drama, play creation, and film and was proud to be a member of the theatre's Young Company. Enrolled in the Performing Arts Program in high school she has had training in dance, voice, theatre and film. Emily has performed in many musicals including Beauty and the Beast, Ragtime, In Search of A Star, A New World, Hair, as well as the musical, Once Upon A Canada at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival. She recently studied Acting at Dalhousie University and performed the roles of Emma in Betrayal and Dunyasha in the Cherry Orchard. Emily loves engaging young people in Drama and Music and is excited to share her passion with the Early Stages students at StageCoach Peterborough.
